PRAYER UPDATE November 2016 - #1
New City Wien - Our Local Church Ministry
Most of these photos were taken on our recent church retreat!
Living in the city, the church retreat gave us the chance to see mountains, lakes and fall foliage. A real treat.

As many of you know, we have been attending New City Wien since we first arrived in Vienna and it has been a real blessing to us. As a church focus on three areas of growth – New Life, ew Community and New City. This Fall we have been taking an intentional look at what it means to live lives as new creatures in Christ, doing this in community and striving to make an impact on the people here in Vienna.
This past weekend we had a church retreat. We were encouraged by a pastor from Scotland (with the accent and all) from the book of 1 Peter. There were some great lessons to be had – we were encouraged to live lives we are not able to live in our own strength (submitting to authority, living in unity, blessing those who do evil toward us). But we were reminded of how Jesus reacted when unjustly accused and that it is through His strength we are able. They were great messages for us personally and for many we spoke with throughout the weekend. Please pray we would take these messages to heart and be changed (New Life!) The church has grown significantly in the past couple of years to where we now have two services and our current facility will not be adequate for our needs much longer. Last Spring I (Tim) and two other men joined our pastor as Elders in the church. One of my responsibilities as an Elder is to be the contact point for our Home Groups. We have a great foundation in this area and hope to continue to improve on it to ensure everyone is taken care of well by the church through these groups. Please pray for an upcoming Home Group leaders meeting. (New Community!) Lori and I are also both on the outreach team, along with Matt Eck. One thing we truly appreciate about our sending church in the states, Denton Bible Church, is how they have always emphasized reaching out to the community in creative ways. We at New City Wien are starting to foster that as well. A couple examples of this are: we have an active English Café that Lori works in where we invite anyone to come and practice their English with us and we are doing a few week trial run of a Drum and Dance Circle for refugees in the City (some of our members attended a seminar that encouraged the Church to reach out to people suffering trauma through various forms of art). Please pray we continue to look for ways to reach out to Vienna with the good news of grace. (New City) This is a young church, with many younger people. It has been rewarding to be able to be called on by God to mentor some and to be a part of the leadership team here. |
Family Update
In our last update we asked you to pray for two immenent grand babies - they have both arrived!! Let us introduce you to Titus (son of Sarah and Steve Bagby) and Simone (daughter of Jason and Jenny Ford) - we will let the photos do our talking. Please praise God with us for these precious little ones. Enjoy the slideshow at the end! |
Missions Conference 2017
Every other year all SERVE missionaries descend on Denton for our missions conference. We will be here for the church services both Sunday, January 15 and Sunday, January 22. There will also be a church wide conference on Friday evening the 20th and some events on Saturday morning the 21st. These conferences are always fun but exhausting for us as well as encouraging to the body of Christ!
We would love to see each of you there if at all possible. Even if you live in another location, maybe a visit to Denton is in order.
We will be coming in town a bit early to meet Simone for the first time, so there could be a sighting of a some missionaries who live in Vienna before the 20th. We are beside ourselves with anticipation.
Pray God is glorified through this conference, that we would grow in our relationship with Him and closer to our fellow missionaries.
