Prayer Letter December 2012
During this season of Christmas, there are Christkindle Markts lit up throughout the city and streets in the center are brightly lit in beautiful displays for many to enjoy. We have been walking the streets praying for the city, praying God will lead us to the perfect place to live, praying that God will help us make a decision about which church to be a part of, and, despite the postcard lights in pockets of this beautiful city, we sense a great heaviness lying over the city. We know that this feeling comes from the fact that the vast majority of these people do not know Christ.
As Christians, glimpsing the darkness should remind us that we once were in darkness spiritually. That it was not until the one whose birth we celebrate this time of year shined His light into our lives were we able to see. With grateful hearts we are reminded of the verse in 1 John…
“In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.”
But, the verse continues describing what we see here in Vienna. “The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (1 John 4-5)
Our prayer is that Christ would shine brightly here, that God would change hearts so that many would comprehend that light, and that God would be pleased to use us in some small way in that process.
